Josh is at the stage where he is everywhere! He is full of energy and doesn't sit still. Most of the time, I end up sitting with him in the nursery alone so that he doesn't disrupt the service.
This one Sunday was no different. Josh and I excused ourselves after a few songs and headed back to the nursery. It hadn't been used in a while since this church didn't have any babies at the time.
I sat down in a rocking chair and Josh started exploring. I should mention that he's also in that "I put every little thing in my mouth" stage. We weren't in there long before I saw him pick up something strange.
Yep, it was a bug. A big dead roach.
I snatched it away and grabbed Josh off the floor. We found a broom and I swept the entire nursery floor, finding several other "casualties" along the way.
Satan loves to get into our minds, doesn't he? I was in a head-on confrontation with him after that discovery. Josh was fine. He was playing with lots of wonderful, fun toys. I was sitting in the rocking chair again.
Little whispers filled my head. "Don't they care about us? Why didn't they take the time to clean before we came? They knew we have a baby. No one wants to help a momma out." I could feel my heart being taken over by thoughts of entitlement and injustice. I was offended.
The Holy Spirit came to my aid and reminded me that no one meant for my baby to discover dead bugs in the nursery. If those poor people had only known, they would have been mortified!!! It was like God said, "Take a chill pill, woman!" How dare I think to withhold kindness and interest in these people simply because their nursery was dirty?!
It could happen to anyone.
I'm so glad that we have the Comforter! He really showed me things from His perspective instead of my being so bent on my own point of view. I'm thankful that I was able to simply take care of the problem and not let it affect my attitude or treatment of that sweet church. It was definitely HIS working!
The next day, we were back at our home and I was feeling ambitious. I decided to clean out my kids toy bin. I dumped everything out onto the floor. You can guess what I found!
Yep, it was a bug. A big dead roach.
I had to sit and have a laugh at myself. God sure does have a sense of humor! And He's trying to keep me humble. :)
