Colorful
When we first started traveling, I was still nursing the baby. Jonathan preaches often, so that leaves me in charge of the kids during the service. It would get interesting when I had to step out and nurse the baby.
I try to bring a few things for the older ones to do during the service...a few small toys, crayons and paper. That's about it.
During one Sunday morning service, I was alone with the three of them in the back pew. The service was almost over, but Josh was hungry. So, I gave the older two (ages 2 and 4 at the time) a pep talk and told them to behave and I'd be right back!
I left and fed the baby as fast as I could. I was praying the whole time that they were being good.
Well, one of them was.
Nathan was doing his thing. He's my predictable child.
But, Anna is my unpredictable one.
She had colored all over the upholstery of the beautifully padded pew with dark purple crayon. I mean all over it. I was mortified! In her defense, she later told me that she chose purple so it would "match" the pew. :)
I apologized to the pastor's wife after the service. She was so kind and told me not to worry about it. In fact, her daughter had jammed a pencil through the fabric and was shoving goldfish crackers into the hole she had made! We shared a laugh.
